GM 6.2L and 6.5L Non-Turbo/Turbo V-8

6.2 L

History
The original 6.2 L (379 cu in) was introduced in 1982 for the Chevrolet/GMC C/K trucks and was produced until 1993. The 6.2L diesel was a high-MPG alternative to the V8 gasoline engine lineup available, at a time when the market was focused more on mileage than raw power.

6.5 L

History
The 6.5 L (395 cu in) version was introduced in 1992 to replace the 6.2. Most 6.5s are equipped with a turbocharger for added power and fuel milage. This engine was never meant to be a power and torque competitor with Ford/International and Dodge/Cummins, but rather a simply designed workhorse engine that made good power and achieved for the time good fuel economy. The Duramax 6600 replaced the 6.5 beginning in 2000, however a version of the 6.5 (6500 Optimizer) is still produced by AM General for the HMMWV(Hummer). There were several versions of the 6.5 produced over the years. Almost all featured a turbocharger, only about 1 percent sold were N/A versions. Biggest changes came from emissions and fuel injection changes to meet standards.
